CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas \u2014 A New Jersey man is facing federal charges after prosecutors say he mailed fentanyl to Corpus Christi, leading to a deadly overdose.<\/p>\n
Federal authorities announced the arrest of\u00a034-year-old Edgar Guzman of Trenton, New Jersey, who\u00a0is charged\u00a0with\u00a0possession with intent to distribute a controlled substance resulting in death.<\/p>\n

According to federal prosecutors, a grand jury returned the indictment on\u00a0July 8, and it\u00a0was unsealed\u00a0following Guzman’s arrest. He\u00a0is expected\u00a0to make his initial appearance before a federal magistrate judge in New Jersey before being transferred to Corpus Christi to face the charges.<\/p>\n
The case stems from an investigation that began on\u00a0April 18, 2026, when law enforcement officers responded to a report of a person in cardiac arrest at a Corpus Christi home.<\/p>\n
Authorities said they found the victim unresponsive, and emergency crews pronounced the person dead at the scene. Investigators reported finding evidence of drug use inside the home and near the victim.<\/p>\n
According to court records, the victim died from fentanyl toxicity. Federal prosecutors allege investigators recovered messages from the victim’s cellphone showing the victim had been ordering fentanyl from Guzman.<\/p>\n
The indictment alleges Guzman shipped the fentanyl from New Jersey to Corpus Christi using\u00a0U.S. Postal Service flat-rate envelopes.<\/p>\n
If convicted, Guzman faces a\u00a0mandatory minimum sentence of 20 years in federal prison, up to\u00a0life in prison, and a maximum\u00a0$1 million fine.<\/p>\n
