EL PASO, Texas (KTSM<\/a>) \u2014 A 28-year-old man is in critical condition following a verbal argument that led to a stabbing in Las Cruces, according to the Las Cruces Police Department.<\/p>\n

Shortly after noon on Saturday, July 11, police and fire crews were dispatched to the 800 block of east Madrid Avenue to a report of a stabbing.<\/p>\n

When first responders arrived, they found a 28-year-old man suffering from “what appeared to be at least one stab wound,” according to LCPD.<\/p>\n

The victim was airlifted to University Medical Center in El Paso in critical condition. He remains in the hospital as of Monday, LCPD said.<\/p>\n

The man believed to be responsible for the stabbing was identified as 37-year-old Pascual Jose Diaz, who was found nearby the scene and taken into custody.<\/p>\n

Investigators believe that the two men were involved in a verbal argument that escalated.<\/p>\n

Diaz has been charged with aggravated battery with a deadly weapon and tampering with evidence. He was booked into the Do\u00f1a Ana County Detention Center, where he is initially being held without bond.<\/p>\n
