Cox"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text | article-text\">LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) &#8211; The city of Lubbock is observing the 25th anniversary of the death of Police Sergeant Kevin Cox, who was accidentally shot and killed during a SWAT standoff on July 13, 2001.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The incident began as a domestic dispute at a home near 87th Street and Geneva Avenue around 11 a.m. Officers said the husband refused to come out of the house. Cox was killed by friendly fire during the standoff.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Cox had served with the Lubbock Police Department for 16 years at the time of his death.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Following Cox\u2019s line-of-duty death, the department\u2019s SWAT team underwent several changes, including additional training, increased funding, and upgraded armored vehicles.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The team went on to win statewide and national championships after those changes were made.
