EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14\/CBS4) \u2014 The 21-year-old man accused of fleeing the scene of a crash that killed a Horizon City couple on a motorcycle had previously been convicted in a federal human smuggling case and was on mandatory supervision at the time of his arrest, according to court records and the Texas Department of Criminal Justice.<\/p>\n

El Paso police arrested David McCall in connection with Sunday’s deadly hit-and-run crash on Loop 375 near Yarbrough Drive. <\/p>\n

Investigators allege McCall was driving a 2025 Kia Forte when he struck a motorcycle carrying a husband and wife before leaving the scene. He was later taken into custody and booked into the El Paso County Jail. <\/p>\n

The victims were identified as 44-year-old Alfredo De La Torre and 42-year-old Miriam De La Torre, both residents of Horizon City.<\/p>\n

A review of federal court records shows McCall was previously convicted of smuggling of persons. In 2024, he was sentenced to four years in prison in the federal case.<\/p>\n

However, records from the Texas Department of Criminal Justice show McCall did not serve the full four-year sentence behind bars. <\/p>\n

According to TDCJ, he was released on parole on mandatory supervision on May 21, 2025.<\/p>\n

Mandatory supervision is a form of release authorized under Texas law in which eligible inmates are released when their calendar time served plus accrued good conduct time equals the length of their sentence, subject to statutory eligibility requirements. <\/p>\n

The new allegations stem from a crash Sunday evening in El Paso’s Lower Valley that claimed the lives of a Horizon City couple riding a motorcycle. Police said the Special Traffic Investigations Unit responded to the collision and later identified McCall as the suspected driver who fled the scene. <\/p>\n

The investigation into the fatal crash remains ongoing. Police have not released additional details about potential charges beyond those announced following McCall’s arrest.<\/p>\n
