After last year tumbling from Travel + Leisure\u2019s annual list<\/a> of the top 10 U.S. cities most worth visiting \u2014\u00a0a space it had held since 2020 \u2014\u00a0San Antonio slid even further in the latest version of the magazine\u2019s reader-driven rankings. <\/p>\n

This year, the Alamo City found itself in the No. 14 spot.<\/p>\n

This time around, Travel + Leisure readers ranked Fort Worth \u2014\u00a0the city where the West begins \u2014 as Texas\u2019 top-rated travel destination, placing at No. 6 on the list. Readers praised Cowtown\u2019s authentic Western feel, historic Stockyards, annual rodeo, and recently revitalized Cultural District.<\/p>\n

\u201cFort Worth is a rare place that proudly channels the spirit of the American West,\u201d the publication wrote.<\/p>\n

San Antonio\u2019s drop to the list\u2019s No. 14 spot comes as the Alamo City, despite a reported bump from the Spurs\u2019 playoff run, is struggling to fill hotel rooms<\/a> and reach pre-pandemic levels.<\/p>\n

For the past 30 years, Travel + Leisure readers worldwide have cast ballots to rank the best destinations, hotels, airlines, cruise lines and travel experiences based on metrics including food, shopping, culture and more. Nearly 700,000 ballots were cast this year, according to the magazine.<\/p>\n

Also of interest to San Antonians, the Pearl\u2019s highly regarded Hotel Emma also slipped from Travel + Leisure\u2019s Best U.S. Hotels list. Even so, the JW Marriott San Antonio Hill Country Resort & Spa on the city\u2019s far North Side did make it as Travel + Leisure\u2019s No. 5 best resort in Texas.<\/p>\n
