The recognition and honors for Fort Worth Christian standout shortstop Grady Emerson keep rolling in.<\/p>\n
Emerson, who was selected with the No. 2 overall pick<\/a> in Saturday\u2019s MLB draft, was awarded with Gatorade\u2019s Best Player of the Year honors at the ESPYS in New York City Wednesday. Boston Celtics All-Star and NBA champion Jayson Tatum presented it live on stage.<\/p>\n \u201cBeing awarded Gatorade Best Male Player of the Year is something I\u2019ve only dreamed about,\u201d Emerson said via press release. \u201cThe athletes who have come before me are the best of all time, so it\u2019s crazy to now be a part of this legacy. Thank you to Gatorade for the recognition and for creating this once-in-a-lifetime experience to celebrate all the hard work it took for us to get here.\u201d<\/p>\n The award covers all sports, making it Gatorade\u2019s top honor. Emerson already received Texas\u2019 Gatorade Baseball Player of the Year and the Gatorade National Baseball Player of the Year<\/a> honors.<\/p>\n The recognitions go beyond athletics, highlighting athletes for academic excellence and community impact. According to Gatorade, Emerson volunteered at The North Texas Food Bank and Mission Arlington, led youth baseball training sessions and delivered home care services during the holiday season while maintaining an A average in the classroom.<\/p>\n Gatorade\u2019s Best Player of the Year has been awarded to stars such as Paige Bueckers, Bobby Witt Jr., Morgan Brian, Cooper Flagg, Sydney McLaughlin-Levrone and more.<\/p>\n \u201cGatorade Player of the Year celebrates the nation\u2019s most outstanding young athletes who embody excellence both on and off the field,\u201d said Senior Director of Gatorade Brand Marketing Jennifer Schmit via press release. \u201cThis year\u2019s winners are no exception \u2013 they represent the next generation of leaders who will pave the future of sport. We\u2019re proud to recognize their incredible accomplishments and support them as they reach the next level in their careers. Grady and Maddie are more than ready to carry this legacy forward and continue inspiring athletes everywhere to pursue greatness.\u201d<\/p>\n Emerson led Fort Worth Christian to the TAPPS Division II state championship game<\/a>, hitting .508 with 56 RBIs and eight home runs. He was named the Star-Telegram\u2019s Offensive Player of the Year.<\/p>\n His long list of accolades includes being the nation\u2019s consensus top prep prospect and being named a semifinalist for the 2026 Golden Spikes Award, which is given to the top amateur athlete in baseball. Emerson and Witt Jr. are the only two high school athletes to be named semifinalists in the award\u2019s history.<\/p>\n Emerson transferred from Argyle to Fort Worth Christian<\/a> ahead of his senior season to play for Cardinal head coach and Texas Rangers\u2019 legend Rusty Greer.<\/p>\n
