{"id":376362,"date":"2026-07-17T02:53:17","date_gmt":"2026-07-17T02:53:17","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/376362\/"},"modified":"2026-07-17T02:53:17","modified_gmt":"2026-07-17T02:53:17","slug":"stranger-donates-kidney-to-central-texas-man-and-gives-him-his-life-back","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/376362\/","title":{"rendered":"Stranger donates kidney to Central Texas man \u2014 and gives him his life back"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text | article-text\"><a href=\"https:\/\/kwtx.com\" target=\"_self\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" title=\"https:\/\/kwtx.com\">ROBINSON, Texas (KWTX) \u2014<\/a> Brandon Crouch was running out of time.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The 54-year-old Robinson, Texas, man and owner of Ironhorse Roofing had been on dialysis for nearly three and a half years after Type 1 diabetes and other sicknesses destroyed his kidneys in January 2023. He continued working through it all \u2014 but the man who once owned a gym and lived for working out could barely make it to his car without collapsing from exhaustion.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cUsed to, I didn\u2019t have enough energy to walk to the car \u2014 if I walked to the car, I was exhausted,\u201d Crouch said. \u201cAnd now I go to the gym and work out 45 minutes a day. It changed my life totally.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">He would lie awake at night, haunted by the statistics. Dialysis patients in his situation, he said, typically survived four to seven years. He was at three and a half \u2014 and getting worse.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cI would wake up in the middle of the night sometimes and I\u2019d be upset about it because if you read \u2014 being on dialysis four to seven years and you pass away \u2014 and I was at about three and a half years. So it was on my mind a lot and I was getting worse and worse and worse.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"figure-img img-fluid mx-auto d-block\" alt=\"Brandon Crouch, of Robinson Texas, with his family\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/P3RJ7RONU5DUZMKROSUZMQWSX4.JPEG\" width=\"980\" height=\"642\" \/>Brandon Crouch, of Robinson Texas, with his family(Courtesy Photo)<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">A Facebook Post That Changed Everything<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">In March 2025, his wife Kelly made a decision her husband wasn\u2019t thrilled about. Brandon, a private man, didn\u2019t want attention. But Kelly had watched him suffer long enough.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">She posted his story on Facebook \u2014 not asking for a donor, just telling the truth about what their family was going through. Twenty-seven people reached out wanting to be tested.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">One of them stood out.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Jessica Kocian, a 39-year-old dental sales representative with Patterson Dental, lived right there in Robinson. She and Kelly weren\u2019t even Facebook friends \u2014 Kocian had simply come across the post.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"figure-img img-fluid mx-auto d-block\" alt=\"Jessica Kocian Robinson resident who donated a kidney to Brandon Crouch\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/4LDK2WFFNVGTNKJZK3MPHAMERQ.JPEG\" width=\"980\" height=\"1279\" \/>Jessica Kocian Robinson resident who donated a kidney to Brandon Crouch(Courtesy Photo)<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cI just saw Kelly had made a post about their situation and it was just something that was put on my heart,\u201d Kocian said. \u201cI just felt like this tug to do it. I reached out to Kelly and throughout the whole journey I just felt like it was something God was calling me to do. I just really felt at peace with the decision and I knew that that was my purpose.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Kocian\u2019s husband Cody tested as well. The two stayed in close contact with Kelly throughout the entire process \u2014 and one day, they showed up at the Crouch family\u2019s front door.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cThe doorbell rang,\u201d Kelly recalled. \u201cIt was Cody and Jessica coming over to ask Brandon if he was ready for a new kidney.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Brandon, who had been let down twice before by potential donors who couldn\u2019t make it to the finish line for medical or personal reasons, was almost afraid to hope.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Setbacks, Heartbreak \u2014 and a Second Chance<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The road to surgery was anything but smooth.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">A surgery originally scheduled for July was derailed when Brandon had skin cancer spots removed \u2014 not realizing it would affect the transplant timeline. Medical City Hospital in Fort Worth dismissed them from the program for not getting prior approval for the procedure.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cWe were devastated and felt like all hope was lost,\u201d Kelly said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">But Jessica Kocian refused to give up. She made phone calls, did her own research, and led the family to UT Southwestern in Dallas \u2014 where they started the process over from scratch. In October, Brandon required heart stents, pushing the surgery back several more months.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Finally, on April 20, Brandon Crouch received Jessica Kocian\u2019s kidney.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cShe Is My Angel\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Two months later, the transformation is remarkable.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Brandon \u2014 the man who couldn\u2019t walk to his car \u2014 now works out 45 minutes a day. He\u2019s back to running his roofing company. He\u2019s present for his two stepchildren in a way he couldn\u2019t be before.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cI feel amazing. It really made me live again. It\u2019s just changed my life greatly. I feel like a million bucks,\u201d he said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The gratitude he feels for a woman who was, until recently, a complete stranger is beyond words.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cWords can\u2019t really describe it. It\u2019s beyond a blessing because we didn\u2019t know each other and she just came up and wanted to donate \u2014 and it really saved my life, to be honest with you. Because I was in a really bad place. It saved my life. Started my life over again.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cOne hundred percent \u2014 she is my angel. One hundred percent.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"figure-img img-fluid mx-auto d-block\" alt=\"Brandon Crouch and Jessica Kocian after kidney transplant surgery in Texas\" loading=\"lazy\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/LNT4M77LDJC4JN4OI2FJLVN5JY.JPG\" width=\"980\" height=\"735\" \/>Brandon Crouch and Jessica Kocian after kidney transplant surgery in Texas(Courtesy Photo)<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">For Kocian, the experience has been equally profound \u2014 even if she still struggles to fully grasp what she did.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cI think I still don\u2019t really understand the magnitude of it. I know that it\u2019s such a big deal \u2014 but to me it seemed like something so small that I could do for another person to literally give them the gift of life,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Her recovery was faster than expected. She went home the day after surgery, spent about two weeks in recovery, and was back to everyday life shortly after.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cThere is no way we could ever not be connected \u2014 so it\u2019s pretty incredible,\u201d Kocian said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">A Message for Others<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Both families say they hope their story inspires others to consider living organ donation.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cWe\u2019re excited that we were able to go through it together,\u201d Kocian said. \u201cI couldn\u2019t have asked for better people to go on this journey with.
