Cheri Gerwig, communications director for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints for the Lubbock area, said the church is honored to be able to help the community in any way it can.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe all know that things are hard, and we\u2019re just grateful to have this opportunity to really help those in need beyond just the church members; it\u2019s about the entire community,\u201d Gerwig said. \u201cI know we\u2019re all in this together, we want to help each other, just a wonderful opportunity and we\u2019re so grateful to be a part of it,\u201d Gerwig said.<\/p>\n
But Johnson said the food donated will not stay on shelves for long.<\/p>\n
\u201cSo, the next steps for the food is, we will immediately try to get it out to the families that are in need,\u201d Johnson said. \u201cOur job is to not hold onto the food for very long, and so we\u2019re going to be packing boxes as quickly as we can and getting it to those who are in need,\u201d Johnson said.<\/p>\n
Gerwig said knowing this donation will help bring families together to enjoy a meal is what makes all the time spent well worth it.<\/p>\n
