through early October — explores systems, form and color with the syncopation of a jazz solo.

This suite of new work is one of four exhibitions by San Antonio-based artists that opened at the Contemporary on First Friday.

Packed with the frenetic energy and bizarrely totemic imagery audiences have come to expect from Cobb — an artist featured in the first-ever exhibition at Blue Star back in 1986 — these large-scale paintings and digital works delight through precision and whimsy in equal measure.

Free, noon-5 p.m. Wednesday, noon-8 p.m. Thursday and Friday, noon-6 p.m. Saturday and Sunday through Sunday, Oct. 4, The Contemporary at Blue Star, 116
