EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14\/CBS4) \u2014 A high-speed pursuit involving a red Jeep on Interstate 10 in Hudspeth County ended with a crash into a canal and led to multiple charges against an El Paso man, according to Texas Department of Public Safety officials.<\/p>\n

A preliminary investigation found that on Wednesday, at about 6:33 a.m., a DPS trooper responded to a U.S. Border Patrol request for assistance with a fail-to-yield involving a red Jeep traveling westbound on IH-10 in Hudspeth County. <\/p>\n

The trooper located the vehicle near mile marker 68 and attempted a traffic stop, but the driver failed to yield, and a pursuit began, officials said. <\/p>\n

Officials said that during the pursuit, the Jeep reached speeds of more than 100 mph, closely followed other vehicles, and passed traffic on the improved shoulder, DPS said. <\/p>\n

The Jeep also struck another vehicle before leaving the roadway and crashing into a canal, ending the pursuit, according to officials. <\/p>\n

DPS said the driver was pulled from the canal and taken into custody without further incident. <\/p>\n

A woman was removed from the vehicle and transported to a local hospital. The driver was identified as Adrian Leonardo Sandoval, 31, of El Paso.<\/p>\n

Sandoval was charged with evading arrest or detention causing serious bodily injury, reckless driving, fail to stop\/render aid and human smuggling, DPS said. EMS responded to evaluate the occupants, and the investigation remained ongoing.<\/p>\n
