In guidance to state agencies<\/a>, officials said state lawmakers \u201cmust act boldly to preserve Texas\u2019 competitive advantage through targeted affordability measures and additional property tax reform while maintaining our commitment to fully funding public education.\u201d <\/p>\n The 3\u00a0percent reduction in agencies\u2019 requests for the next state budget will serve \u201cas the starting point for budget deliberations,\u201d they added. If the plans hold, they could lead to larger classes and unfilled vacant positions, The Texas Tribune reported<\/a>.
