LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Early voting begins Monday in the runoff election for Lubbock City Council District 4.<\/p>\n
Homebuilder Tim Green is facing off against former city councilman Gary Boren after winning 47% of the vote back in June. Boren got 38%, leading to a runoff.<\/p>\n
Early voting runs from Monday, July 20 through Tuesday, July 28, with election day on Aug. 1.<\/p>\n

Early voting is available at the Lubbock County Elections Office at 1308 Crickets Ave. from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. except Sunday, July 26, when polls will be open from noon to 6 p.m. The elections office will have extended hours from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, July 20 and Tuesday, July 28.<\/p>\n
You can cast an early ballot at these United locations from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m., but these locations will also have shorter hours on Sunday, July 26, where they will be open 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. and they will also have extended hours from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Monday, July 20 and Tuesday, July 28.<\/p>\n

You can also cast an early ballot in the lobby of Citizens Tower, 1314 Avenue K, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. July 20-28, although this location will be closed Saturday and Sunday.<\/p>\n

He has described himself as the \u201cpro-growth\u201d candidate.<\/p>\n \u201cI think we need somebody in the city council seat that has that experience of growth, that knows what direction the city is growing,\u201d Green said. \u201cBringing in new revenue, different streams of revenue, lessen the burden off of our current taxpayers. Growth and new revenue lessens the burden and helps lower taxes and that\u2019s what I\u2019m going to do.\u201d<\/p>\n Boren points to experience in keeping costs down<\/p>\n Boren is running on experience. He previously served on the Lubbock City Council in the early 2000s, on the Lubbock ISD Board of Trustees, and currently serves on the Brazos River Authority.<\/p>\n Boren won a court decision against the city of Lubbock to appear on the ballot after the city challenged whether he had lived in District 4 long enough.<\/p>\n \u201cI have four years experience with water, electric, development, public safety, I know what to do and we\u2019ve been through this before,\u201d Boren said. \u201cAnd if we don\u2019t do this the cost to a homeowner is going to be tremendous, your taxes will go up, and I know how to hold those costs down.
