We’re all scrolling social media all day long in 2026. All of us. All. Day. Long.<\/p>\n

You’re bound to have witnessed an entire spectrum of keyboard warriors on local Lubbock Facebook comment sections.<\/p>\n

One minute, it’s a cute story about a new mom-and-pop shop opening on 34th Street, and somehow, 4 comments in, someone is ranting about politics, arguing, or telling someone, “Well, if you don’t like it here, just move.”<\/p>\n

Lubbock isn’t really unique in this type of behavior. Happens everywhere.<\/p>\n

Unfortunately, this city has a way of connecting all of us, whether we realize it or not, and sometimes, you forget you might be arguing with your kid’s teacher, a future employer, or someone coming in to interview with you for a new position next year.<\/p>\n

Here are a few of the most familiar species of commenters on social media posts you’ll see in our area.<\/p>\n

This kind of person will find something wrong with everything.<\/p>\n

The whole world is out to get them, and every day of their life seems to be their worst day ever.<\/p>\n

The restaurant is never good enough.<\/p>\n

The doctor’s office is never clean enough.<\/p>\n

The daycare is never cheap enough….and on and on and on…<\/p>\n

This person has solved the case before being presented a single damn fact.<\/p>\n

They’ll write an entire f*cking screenplay based on a rumor and a blurry photo.<\/p>\n

It doesn’t matter what the topic is.<\/p>\n

Politics. Food. School.<\/p>\n

This person pops in to explain why everyone else is wrong.<\/p>\n

This person skips having any kind of normal debate or discussion completely and begins attacking someone’s appearance, intelligence, or family.<\/p>\n

At this point, the convo has stopped being productive.<\/p>\n

Things are getting nasty.<\/p>\n

Thankfully, some endangered species of Lubbock commenters are actually worth protecting.<\/p>\n

This person kindly tells folks to chill out before jumping to stupid conclusions.<\/p>\n

They are capable of getting their point across AND being polite.<\/p>\n

What an idea!<\/p>\n

Be like them.<\/p>\n

This person tends to try to break the tension with a little joke to remind us that this is just Facebook and nobody is actually solving world peace on a local news post.<\/p>\n

This type of commenter just drops by to wish people well and then moves on with their day.<\/p>\n

They don’t fuss.<\/p>\n

They don’t get involved.<\/p>\n

They spread cheer and disappear.<\/p>\n

The internet has a way longer memory than most of us realize. Think about it.<\/p>\n

A screenshot could last forever.<\/p>\n

Schools, employers, friends, and family are all capable of stumbling across something you wrote years ago out of frustration, or even just yesterday. A teeny little comment and far outlive the emotion that initially inspired it.<\/p>\n

Nobody is perfect, and all of us have said things online we probably should have deleted instead of posting. But, I think a great rule of thumb is to hover your finger over the “Post” button and ask yourself:<\/p>\n

“Would I say this if the person was standing here directly in front of me?”<\/p>\n

If the answer is “no”, it’s a no-go.<\/p>\n

Facts<\/p>\n

Lubbock is at its best when neighbors treat one another with kindness and respect. A few disagreements here and there are probably healthy, but we could cut back a little on the vicious energy online and save it for things that actually deserve it, like Hasting’s closing down, or people driving without their blinkers…<\/p>\n
