Driver says she took evasive action to avoid another vehicle and hit a tree, killing her passenger. <\/p>\n

ARLINGTON, Texas \u2014 A 79-year-old woman died following a crash late Sunday morning in Arlington, according to the Arlington Police Department.<\/p>\n

Officers responded around 11:03 a.m. on Sunday, July 19, to a single-vehicle wreck in the 2600 block of New York Avenue. Police said a 2019 Cadillac CT5 traveled off the roadway and struck a tree in the median.<\/p>\n

The 79-year-old victim, who was a passenger in the Cadillac, was transported to a local hospital, where she was later pronounced dead from her injuries.<\/p>\n

The driver of the vehicle, a 66-year-old woman, was also taken to an area hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.<\/p>\n

According to police, the driver reported she was traveling northbound on New York Avenue when another vehicle unexpectedly entered her lane. She told officers she took evasive action to avoid a collision, which caused her vehicle to go off the road and hit the tree.<\/p>\n

The crash remains under active investigation by Arlington police.<\/p>\n
