EL PASO, Texas (KTSM<\/a>) \u2014 A 44-year-old man was arrested for allegedly entering a victim’s home, taking the keys, and driving off with the victim’s vehicle in far East El Paso, according to the El Paso County Sheriff’s Office.<\/p>\n

On Saturday, July 18, deputies with the Peter J. Herrera Patrol Station were dispatched to the 700 block of Cascada Street after receiving a report of a vehicle theft in progress.<\/p>\n

While deputies were responding, the victim provided the real-time location of the stolen vehicle, which was traveling north on South Ascension Road toward Montana, according to the Sheriff’s Office.<\/p>\n

Deputies assigned to the East Montana Patrol Station quickly located the vehicle at the 14200 block of Montana and conducted a felony traffic stop.<\/p>\n

The driver was identified as 44-year-old Michael Zavala and was detained without incident.<\/p>\n

During the investigation, deputies determined that Zavala allegedly had unlawfully entered the victim’s residence, stolen the keys to the victim’s truck and driven off with the vehicle, according to the Sheriff’s Office.<\/p>\n

Zavala was charged with burglary of habitation and booked into the El Paso County Detention Facility with a $75,000 bond.<\/p>\n

“The coordination between our Peter J. Herrera and East Montana Patrol Stations was instrumental in bringing this case to a quick resolution,” El Paso County Sheriff Oscar Ugarte said. “Thanks to the communication and rapid response of our deputies, a burglary suspect was taken into custody, and the stolen vehicle was safely recovered. This is another example of our commitment to working together to protect our community and hold criminals accountable.”<\/p>\n
