BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) – Tropical Depression Two has strengthened and organized into Tropical Cyclone Bertha over the northeastern Gulf of Mexico. The system is becoming increasingly organized, and forecast guidance is pointing toward a track that could bring the center toward Texas with potential landfall near the end of the week or this weekend.<\/p>\n
An Air Force Reserve reconnaissance aircraft confirms the system is organizing. While the system faces dry air and wind shear, the warm Gulf waters should provide enough fuel to keep it at Tropical Storm strength over the next few days, depending on how quickly it continues to organize and how favorable conditions remain.<\/p>\n

If you have folks who live or are traveling to Florida, Alabama, Mississippi, and Louisiana \u2014 monitor this system\u2019s progress closely. Tropical storm watches or warnings have been issued for portions of the Gulf Coast already, with more possible.<\/p>\n
Impacts for Texas and the Brazos Valley<\/p>\n
Heavy rainfall is expected across the northern Gulf Coast this week. For the Brazos Valley, impacts will depend on the storm\u2019s track:<\/p>\n
If the track trends farther north: The storm would likely weaken more quickly. Expect minor to moderate wind and rain, with bands of heavier downpours possible.If the track trends farther south: A stronger storm becomes more likely, with greater impacts for the Texas coast and potentially stronger inland impacts for the Brazos Valley.<\/p>\n
