SPRING, Texas (KTRK) — A church service inside a Spring senior living community is giving people living with dementia a place to worship, participate, and feel at home.<\/p>\n
Houston’s Dementia Friendly Church at The Landing at Augusta Woods started when a resident missed going to church after moving in. That simple request led to a ministry run by residents for people living with dementia. The service uses Montessori methods, focusing on each person’s abilities and giving them meaningful roles.<\/p>\n
Edward Craft works as the Lifestyle Director at the facility.<\/p>\n
“It gives our residents a sense of purpose and pride in our community. We really want to showcase what people living with dementia are still capable of doing,” Craft said.<\/p>\n
Brandi Williams, the executive director of The Landing, said the service now includes all memory care residents and is reaching even more people.<\/p>\n
“We have residents from other parts of our community, assisted living, independent living that come and join,” Williams shared.<\/p>\n
