SNYDER, Texas (KCBD) – A vintage gas station on the corner of Coliseum Drive and 25th Street has become a roadside landmark, drawing attention nationwide and around the world.<\/p>\n
Lynn Fuller restored the former Sinclair station in 2011 after the structure had fallen into disrepair. Built in 1932, the station no longer pumps gas \u2014 it now serves as a small museum and gathering place. <\/p>\n
Fuller said the project crew well beyond his original plans.<\/p>\n
\u201cMeant to just repair it,\u201d he said. \u201cBut one thing led to another, kind of like restoring a car, and there was nowhere to stop.\u201d <\/p>\n
The interior space is compact, but the collection has expanded outdoors. Displays outside the station include an iconic Apatosaurus figure and a carousel horse. <\/p>\n
Fuller said the station has become a focal point for Snyder residents and returning alumni. <\/p>\n
\u201cEverybody grew up here and this was kind of the focal point,\u201d he said. \u201cThey\u2019ll have a class reunion, say class of \u201868. We\u2019ll get a restored car and play music.\u201d <\/p>\n
He said visitors regularly stop to take pictures and share memories tied to the location. <\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s a lot of fun talking to people from all over the United States and actually all over the world that stopped by here and take pictures,\u201d Fuller said. <\/p>\n
He says his family history in Scurry County spans more than a hundred years, and the restoration was motivated by a sense of community. <\/p>\n
\u201cIt\u2019s just something I wanted to do for Snyder,\u201d he said. \u201cAnd they\u2019ve been very, very, very appreciative and I\u2019d do it again.\u201d <\/p>\n
As for his wife\u2019s reaction to the ongoing project, Fuller offered a brief summary. <\/p>\n
\u201cWell, I guess she\u2019s very excited, she\u2019s speechless,\u201d he said. \u201cShe hadn\u2019t talked to me since I bought it.\u201d <\/p>\n
