CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas \u2014 Corpus Christi residents could see a small increase on their monthly utility bills next year after the City Council approved the first reading of updated water and wastewater rates for fiscal year 2027.<\/p>\n
The proposed rate adjustments were approved during Tuesday’s City Council meeting and applies to all customer classes, including residential, commercial, wholesale and large-volume users.<\/p>\n

If the proposal receives final approval, the new rates will take effect Jan. 1, 2027.<\/p>\n
According to the city, the average residential customer would see a combined monthly increase of about $4.35 for water and wastewater service.<\/p>\n
City officials said the increase is lower than last year’s adjustment, despite continued investments in expanding the city’s water supply and improving aging infrastructure.<\/p>\n
The city said the additional revenue will help support ongoing water and wastewater operations while funding major infrastructure projects designed to meet future demand.<\/p>\n
Corpus Christi Water also highlighted the city’s long-term financial planning, saying its approach to setting utility rates has received favorable reviews from major credit rating agencies, including Moody’s, S&P and Fitch Ratings.<\/p>\n
According to the city, those agencies have been notified of the council’s latest fiscal decisions and have recognized the city’s willingness to make rate adjustments when necessary to maintain the financial health of its water and wastewater enterprise funds. City officials say those actions also help preserve Corpus Christi’s strong credit profile.<\/p>\n
The ordinances will return to the City Council for a second and final reading on July 28.
