EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14\/CBS4) \u2014 The El Paso Community College unveiled the new space for its student video game athletes.<\/p>\n

On Tuesday, EPCC held a grand opening ceremony, complete with a ribbon-cutting, to welcome its new “Tejano esports Hive” at the Valle Verde campus’ student union. <\/p>\n

What is The Hive?<\/p>\n

According to EPCC, with 14 gaming computers, a pool, air hockey, shuffleboard and foosball table, The Hive is the home for the college’s esports team student-athletes.<\/p>\n

It will also serve as the competition area for the first 2026 esports season, which will begin on September 28. <\/p>\n

In a press release, EPPC President Dr. William Serrata wrote that he hopes the center will bring students together.<\/p>\n

“We know that success happens both inside and outside the classroom, which is why we continue to invest in spaces that foster belonging, connection and engagement\u2014our Valle Verde Student Union, which is home to the innovative Tejanos esports Hive, is an example of that commitment,” Serrata said. <\/p>\n

Echoing the president’s sentiment, EPCC’s esports Interim Head Coach Adan Lara wrote, “We hope it becomes a place where you can compete, learn, build friendships, and create lasting memories.”<\/p>\n

Meanwhile, Student Government Association Vice President Erick Gutierrez-Carlson said he believes the Hive will enhance students’ college journey.<\/p>\n

“As the Tejanos esports program begins its journey, I have no doubt that this space will become a symbol of collaboration, excellence, and school pride. It will not only elevate the student experience but also empower students to succeed academically, personally, and professionally,” Gutierrez-Carlson wrote.<\/p>\n
