Harris plays Everett McKinney in the Paramount+ series that wrapped up its nine-episode first season earlier this month.<\/a> Everett is a weathered veteran and veterinarian who becomes close with Beth Dutton (Kelly Reilly) and Rip Wheeler (Cole Hauser), and rekindles a romance with Beulah Jackson (Annette Bening).<\/p>\n On the red carpet of his new film \u201cThe Dink,\u201d Harris told Variety<\/a> that he felt \u201cmisled\u201d and \u201cinconsequential\u201d about his role on \u201cDutton Ranch.\u201d<\/p>\n Prior to signing onto the show, Harris said he was told that he\u2019d be one of the four main characters along with Beth, Rip and Beulah. According to him, that wasn\u2019t the case.<\/p>\n \u201cI [told the show\u2019s producers], \u2018I\u2019m feeling underused and inconsequential,\u2019\u201d Harris said Monday night. \u201cAnd they kind of went, \u2018Oh.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n Ed Harris says he felt \u201cmisled\u201d about his \u201cinconsequential\u201d role on \u201cDutton Ranch,\u201d and that halfway through filming Season 1, he was telling his team to \u201cget me the f— out of here.\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cPrior to signing on for it, I was talked to quite a bit about what the season was, and what\u2026 pic.twitter.com\/StmmazVogC<\/a><\/p>\n \u2014 Variety (@Variety) July 21, 2026<\/a> Ed Harris gets candid about \u2018Dutton Ranch\u2019<\/p>\n Asked about \u201cDutton Ranch\u201d season 2,<\/a> Harris said filming begins in February 2027, and he\u2019s been told that he will have an expanded role this time around.<\/p>\n Harris admits that he did watch the show and thought it turned out \u201cpretty good.\u201d To that end, he felt fine about the work he did and the importance of his character in the show. But, it didn\u2019t feel that way while making it.<\/p>\n \u201cIt just was a little frustrating, to tell you the truth,\u201d Harris said.<\/p>\n \ud83c\udfac In case you missed it: <\/p>\n Another thing that soured Harris was one his scenes being cut.<\/p>\n In episode 2<\/a>, Harris\u2019 character meets up with Beth and Rip at bar and later is asked to come on stage and sing. Harris walks over and saddles up to the microphone, but the episode doesn\u2019t actually show him performing.<\/p>\n As Harris tells it, a scene was filmed of him performing but didn\u2019t make it into the show because it was too light for the dark ending they planned for the episode. To that dark ending, episode 2 ends with Rip dumping a body in an abandoned mine shaft.<\/p>\n \u201c[Expletive] you people, that\u2019s all I got to say,\u201d Harris told Variety. \u201cThat to me was reason enough to say, \u2018I\u2019m voiding my contract.\u2019\u201d<\/p>\n \u201cDutton Ranch\u201d follows Beth and Rip on a new adventure in the fictional South Texas town of Rio Paloma.<\/p>\n Reilly and Hauser reprise their \u201cYellowstone\u201d roles, along with Finn Little as their adopted son Carter. These are the only returning characters from \u201cYellowstone,\u201d although there are a few other nods to the series on \u201cDutton Ranch.\u201d<\/p>\n The show filmed all around North Texas, including in Fort Worth and Dallas.
