From soaked kittens to dogs separated from families who lost everything, volunteers are racing to bring Kerr County\u2019s smallest flood survivors home.<\/p>\n

\n\t\tWater rescue boats and trucks were all over Ozona, Texas, picking up residents that were stranded by the devastating flash flooding on July 17. The region remains under a flash flood emergency.\n\t<\/p>\n
\n\tWhen floodwaters tore through a downtown Kerrville<\/a> business on July 16, they destroyed the shed where a family of community cats had long taken shelter. One kitten was found critically injured, while volunteers safely captured the adult male cat and took him for veterinary treatment. They were still searching for the mother and another kitten, the Kerrville Daily Times <\/a>reported Monday.\n<\/p>\n \n\tThe rescue illustrates the challenges animal advocates continue to face in the aftermath of the flooding, with displaced pets still turning up days after the water receded.\n<\/p>\n \n\tSix days after widespread flooding swept across the Texas Hill Country, Kerrville Pets Alive!<\/a> is still searching for missing animals, treating injuries and helping displaced families care for their pets. The nonprofit was also key in rescuing and reuniting pets with owners after the deadly July 4, 2025, flooding<\/a> in Texas Hill Country.\n<\/p>\n \n\t\u201cWe\u2019re still seeing a lot of action with cleanup, and we are doing our very best to keep up with all the displaced animals,\u201d Executive Director Karen Guerriero said in a Tuesday Instagram update<\/a>.\n<\/p>\n \n\tThe volunteer-run nonprofit has maintained a lost-and-found database<\/a>, supplied vaccines and testing resources to Kerr County Animal Control, arranged rescue and foster placements, and distributed pet food and supplies. Volunteers also transferred 26 cats to Austin Pets Alive!<\/a>, clearing local space for animals recovered after the flood.\n<\/p>\n \n\tThe need extends beyond household pets. Kerrville Pets Alive! said it is funding feed and bedding shavings for a family with animals in the city of Comfort<\/a> whose property was hit hard by flooding. Everyone, including the animals, escaped safely.\n<\/p>\n \n\tResidents who have lost or found a pet should call Kerr County Animal Control at 830-257-3100 and submit a report at kerrvillepetsalive.org. Pet food is available weekdays at 2102 Memorial Blvd. in Kerrville.\n<\/p>\n \n\tGuerriero urged residents to keep pets away from standing water and floodwater, which can expose animals to debris and disease-causing organisms.\n<\/p>\n \n\tAs those floodwaters are slowly receding, the search for missing pets across Kerr County continues. Volunteers say bringing pets safely home remains one of the recovery effort’s most rewarding missions.\n<\/p>\n
