LUBBOCK, Texas (KCBD) – Dangerously hot conditions will continue to grip the South Plains through the weekend, with high temperatures potentially reaching 106° today, particularly for areas off the Caprock.

"KCBD"KCBD(KCBD)

A Heat Advisory is in effect again today from 1 p.m. until 9 p.m. this evening for areas off to the east. This pattern will persist through the remainder of the week, with area-wide Heat Advisories likely by late this week into the weekend.

"KCBD"KCBD(KCBD)

Expect daily Heat Advisories possible through this weekend, especially off the Caprock.

What to expect

A tall dome of high pressure will continue to push even warmer temperatures into the area through Wednesday through next Tuesday.

"KCBD"KCBD(KCBD)

The forecast shows virtually no relief from the heat, with prospects for rain remaining extremely low. While some isolated showers are possible Friday night, measurable precipitation is unlikely given the deep subsidence and extremely dry conditions in the atmosphere.

"KCBD"KCBD(KCBD)Stay safe in the heat

During a Heat Advisory, stay hydrated and drink plenty of water throughout the day. Limit outdoor activities, especially during peak heat hours near 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. Check on elderly neighbors and family members who may be more vulnerable to heat-related illness. Never leave children or pets in vehicles, even for a few minutes. Seek air-conditioned shelter when possible and take frequent breaks if you must be outside.
