(KKTV) &#8211; On July 21, Colorado Springs Police Department notified the El Paso County Sheriff\u2019s Office (EPCSO) that a deputy with the department was facing multiple charges including driving under the influence.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">According to a release from EPCSO, the deputy was identified as 41-year-old David Smith. He has been charged with Driving Under the Influence, Careless Driving, Accident Driving Under the Influence, and Prohibited Use of Weapons.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">EPCSO said Smith was employed with the Sheriff\u2019s Office since September of 2024 and was assigned to the Detention Security Division.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Smith has been placed on administrative leave in accordance with policy, EPCSO said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">As of Wednesday, EPCSO said this is an active investigation being handled by the Colorado Springs Police Department.<\/p>\n<p>Copyright 2026 KKTV.
