A magnitude 5.0 earthquake hit the Texas Panhandle early\u00a0Thursday\u2014\u00a0the strongest tremor the region has seen in more than 120 years.<\/p>\n
The quake shook parts of rural Texas at 5:21 a.m. local time, with shocks\u00a0felt in\u00a0Amarillo, Texas, as well as\u00a0Oklahoma City\u00a0and as far east as\u00a0Tulsa, Oklahoma,\u00a0according to the US Geological Survey.<\/a><\/p>\n The quake, with a reported depth of around 3.5 miles, was the strongest in the region since 1900,\u00a0Fox Weather reported.<\/a>\u00a0It is only the fourth quake of magnitude 4.0 or stronger in that\u00a0time, too.<\/p>\n An alert was issued for the earthquake that struck the Texas Panhandle. FOX Weather<\/p>\n The quake\u2019s epicenter was around 23 miles from Spearman, a city with a population of around 2,800 people.<\/p>\n There were no initial reports of injuries or damage, but Amarillo residents rushed to comment in a local Facebook group about being woken by shaking.<\/p>\n \u201cI felt it! Shook the whole house,\u201d a local said.<\/p>\n While some said they were \u201cfreaked\u201d out by the sudden shaking, others tried to make light of it.<\/p>\n
