It originated about 1.7 miles below the surface. No one had reported feeling the aftershock as of Friday morning.<\/p>\n<p>The aftershock occurred about 18 hours after a <a href=\"https:\/\/abc7amarillo.com\/news\/local\/50-earthquake-jolts-roberts-hansford-gray-and-hutchinson-counties-just-after-5-am-county-judge-mitchell-locke-dr-carla-eichler-west-texas-am-university-geology\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">magnitude 5.0 earthquake <\/a>shook the region at 5:21 a.m. Thursday. The main earthquake was centered about 24 miles northwest of Miami and about 24 miles south-southeast of Spearman at a depth of approximately 3.5 miles.<\/p>\n<p>Residents reported feeling the initial earthquake across the Texas Panhandle and in parts of Oklahoma. Shaking was reported as far away as Amarillo, Lubbock, Oklahoma City and Tulsa.<\/p>\n<p>There were no immediate reports of injuries or significant damage.<\/p>\n<p>USGS records indicate the magnitude 5.0 earthquake was the strongest recorded in the Texas Panhandle since at least 1900 and only the fourth magnitude 4.0 or stronger earthquake documented in the region during that period.<\/p>\n<p>Additional aftershocks are possible.
