EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14\/CBS4) \u2014 Triple-digit temperatures continue to grip the Borderland, prompting many El Pasoans to adjust their daily routines to stay safe while spending time outdoors.<\/p>\n
Whether heading to work, attending sporting events or simply running errands, residents told KFOX14 they’re taking extra precautions to avoid the dangers of prolonged heat exposure.<\/p>\n
“It’s hot. I mean, it’s always hot in El Paso,” said Jazlyn Gomez, who was preparing to attend her brother’s baseball tournament. “Always have to have your water, a hat, glasses. It’s very important that you go outside prepared.”<\/p>\n
Gomez said the extreme heat has changed how her family plans to watch the tournament.<\/p>\n
Instead of sitting in the bleachers, she said they’ll be watching the games from their air-conditioned car to limit their time in the sun.<\/p>\n
For people who work outdoors, however, avoiding the heat isn’t an option.<\/p>\n

RELATED: Weather Warn Issued Friday: Extreme Heat to Impact Borderland<\/a><\/p>\n One pool employee said staying hydrated and finding shade are essential during long shifts spent outside.<\/p>\n “Honestly, the way I prepare for these long hours is just drinking a lot of water, staying as much as we can in the shade. We have umbrellas, and that helps us a little bit,” the worker said.<\/p>\n Despite those precautions, the heat still takes a toll.<\/p>\n “Honestly, we’re ready to get back home… back into the A\/C. It’s pretty bad out here,” the employee said.<\/p>\n Another pool worker shared that employees can spend anywhere from five to ten hours outside, depending on the length of their shift.<\/p>\n “Usually we’re in the heat for around five hours a day. If we have longer shifts, up to ten hours, our manager got us a water tank so we’re able to stay hydrated,” the worker said.<\/p>\n While some people can cool off at home, others rely on public cooling centers for relief.<\/p>\n The Canutillo Senior Center has opened a cooling station to help seniors escape the dangerous temperatures.<\/p>\n “Here at the Canutillo Senior Center, we have a cooling station. It’s provided for all the seniors that get a little bit hot in their house,” a staff member said.<\/p>\n One visitor said the cooling center offers relief that isn’t always available at home.<\/p>\n “We come here to the center. We get a little fan at home, but we come over here with your refrigerated air to cool down,” the visitor said. “Don’t go out there and fight it because it’s going to get you.
