If one were to ask what the biggest celebrity mention of Katy, Texas, ever in the history of … well, civilization, you’d probably chalk it up to\u00a0Drake<\/a> mentioning it as a hideaway for a woman who will eventually earn his scorn on “Desires.”\u00a0The second one would probably have arrived Friday night,\u00a0when a few random soccer players happened to be joined by none other than San Antonio Spurs star Victor Wembanyama<\/a>.<\/p>\n

In numerous videos shared on TikTok, the various players enjoying a recreational game of soccer on a humid night at the Katy International Sports Complex spotted the NBA’s “alien” and current reigning Defensive Player of the Year. Few could do much except gawk and stare at the giant, slender man who might not be as much of a terror on the pitch as his countryman Kylian Mbappe is, but he’s still rather imposing.<\/p>\n

According to witnesses, Wembanyama netted a couple of goals during his time on the field, showcasing some deft touch as he rocked a 2024-25 Paris\u00a0Saint-Germain away kit with the No. 1 on the back. After the night was done and Wemby walked off the pitch being mobbed by fans, one decided to showcase his limited French to get the NBA All-Star’s attention.<\/p>\n

Needless to say, plenty of Spurs fans were weary of their star player randomly being out and about in the Houston area playing soccer, with one flatly saying, “Don’t get hurt and rest up.”<\/p>\n

The outspoken NBA center has been vocal about a wide range of topics in recent months, including how the United States Men’s National Team could become “a problem” on the global stage. Despite a disastrous flameout in the World Cup vs. Belgium, the USMNT made team history, scoring the most goals they’ve ever logged at a single World Cup and winning three matches. Still, Wemby was rather blunt about what could happen if the U.S. decided to lean on soccer the same way they’ve done with football (the Earl Campbell version) and basketball.<\/p>\n

“If America took football seriously, they could be a problem,” he said during an appearance on Men In Blazers<\/a>. “I mean they already do but more seriously, as much as the major sports in here, they could be a problem. As we know, there’s plenty of talents, lots and lots of talents in this country. I think they’re only going to get better.”<\/p>\n

As far as Wemby himself getting better (and being a thorn in the Rockets’ side for the next decade at least)? He’s already gone to the “Hakeem Olajuwon School for Big Men” after meeting the Rockets legend at the Final Four in San Antonio last year. That turned into a season where he became the first player ever to be unanimously named Defensive Player of the Year, and he led the Spurs to their first NBA Finals since 2014.<\/p>\n
