EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14\/CBS4) \u2014 A Barrio Azteca gang member pleaded guilty to several charges Wednesday, including acting as the “lookout” in the murders of a U.S. Consulate Juarez employee and her husband. <\/p>\n
According to the U.S. Department of Justice, 59-year-old Enrique Guajardo Lopez, aka “Kiki,” from Ciudad Juarez, pleaded guilty to racketeering conspiracy to distribute and import drugs.<\/p>\n
While a sentencing date has not been set yet, the DOJ said Lopez is facing life in prison.<\/p>\n
According to court documents and information presented in court, Lopez is one of 35 Barrio Azteca members and associates based in the US and Mexico who were charged in the third superseding indictment in 2011 for allegedly committing various criminal acts, including racketeering, narcotics distribution and importation, retaliation against persons providing information to U.S. law enforcement, extortion, money laundering, obstruction of justice, and murder. <\/p>\n
Of the 35 defendants, 10 Mexican men were charged for their role in the March 13, 2010 murders of U.S. Consulate employee Leslie Ann Enriquez Catton, her husband Arthur Redelfs and Jorge Alberto Salcido Ceniceros, the husband of another U.S. Consulate employee, who were gunned down and killed after leaving a child’s birthday party in Juarez.<\/p>\n
Reportedly, the Barrio Azteca gang members mistook the Consulate employee for rivals. <\/p>\n
All the defendants have been apprehended, and 30 have pleaded guilty. <\/p>\n
The DOJ said that three defendants have been convicted at trial and one committed suicide before the end of his trial. <\/p>\n
One defendant remains pending trial.<\/p>\n
RELATED: Alleged Barrio Azteca members extradited to U.S. for 2010 consulate murders in Juarez<\/a><\/p>\n How did we get here?<\/p>\n Lopez, along with fellow Barrio Azteca gang member and former FBI Top 10 Most Wanted Fugitive Eduardo Ravelo, aka “Tablas,” “Tablero” and “T-Blas,” was extradited from Mexico to face American justice on Feb. 20, 2025, in connection with the murders of the U.S. Consulate employees in Juarez. <\/p>\n In December, 2025, Ravelo pleaded guilty to his charges.<\/p>\n Before Lopez and Ravelo had been extradited, just three years before, in February of 2022, two Barrio Azteca members, Jose Guadalupe Diaz Diaz, aka “Zorro”, from Chihuahua, and Martin Artin Perez Marrufo, aka “Popeye,” also from Chihuahua, were found guilty of being the gunmen who killed the U.S. Consulate employee. <\/p>\n Diaz was identified as the shooter who killed Enriquez and Redelfs, while Marrufo was identified as the shooter who killed Ceniceros. <\/p>\n Enriquez was four months pregnant; her fetus didn’t survive.<\/p>\n Both had been extradited from Mexico to face justice in the U.S., Diaz on Nov. 13, 2019, and Marrufo on Jan. 18, 2020. <\/p>\n Video from the scene of the killings:<\/p>\n Barrio Azteca gunmen found guilty on all counts for consulate murders in Cd.
