Crews shifted from an interior attack to defensive operations as they worked to fully extinguish the blaze<\/p>\n

HOUSTON \u2013 A Houston firefighter was taken to a local hospital after suffering a twisted ankle while crews battled an abandoned building fire late Saturday at a former school on Center Street.<\/p>\n

Houston Fire Department<\/a> crews were dispatched around 11:45 p.m. to the 3200 block of Center Street and arrived to find flames inside the structure. <\/p>\n

Firefighters initially went in offensively, then later pulled back and switched to defensive operations.<\/p>\n

Crews are expected to stay on scene into the morning to fully extinguish the fire. The cause remains under investigation. <\/p>\n
