Harris County residents will have two opportunities this week to weigh in on a new countywide flood resilience plan aimed at improving how communities prepare for, respond to and recover from flooding.<\/p>\n
The Harris County Flood Control District is hosting two public open houses as it enters the next phase of developing the Harris County Flood Resilience Plan, an initiative designed to ensure public and private resources are better coordinated before, during and after flood events.<\/p>\n
Officials say the meetings are part of the second of three rounds of public engagement and are intended to gather feedback from residents before the plan is finalized later this year or early next year.<\/p>\n

Monday, July 27<\/p>\n
Time: 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.<\/p>\n
Location: Riley Chambers Community Center, 808 1\/2 Magnolia Ave., Crosby<\/p>\n
Wednesday, July 29<\/p>\n
Time: 5:30 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.<\/p>\n
Location: Tom Bass Community Center, 15108 Cullen Blvd., Houston<\/p>\n
County leaders say flooding is one of the biggest threats facing Harris County and can happen any time of the year\u2014not just during hurricane season.<\/p>\n
Officials are encouraging residents, especially those who have experienced flooding firsthand, to attend the meetings and share their experiences to help shape the final plan.<\/p>\n
The meetings will also allow attendees to review proposed strategies and provide feedback before the plan is completed.<\/p>\n
\u201cEveryone in Houston and Harris County has a flooding story, and really we want to hear those stories so we can take them into account when we develop strategies moving forward,\u201d said Emily Woodell with the Harris County Flood Control District.<\/p>\n
Flood control leaders say the Flood Resilience Plan is intended to serve as more than a planning document. The county hopes it will become a roadmap for future flood mitigation projects, emergency response efforts and long-term recovery planning across Harris County.<\/p>\n
The final Flood Resilience Plan is expected to be presented later this year or in early 2027 after the public engagement process is complete.<\/p>\n
