The public is invited to attend a \u201csolemn occasion\u201d that law enforcement and transportation officials are planning at the ferry landing in Port Aransas on Friday, Nov. 7.<\/p>\n
The event will observe a grim 25-year streak.<\/p>\n
\u201cEvery day for the past 25 years, someone has died in a crash in Texas,\u201d said a news release issued by the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT).<\/p>\n
\u201cThere have been more than 91,000 lives lost in traffic crashes since Nov. 7, 2000,\u201d the release said.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe Texas Department of Transportation and our law enforcement partners call on everyone to help finally #EndTheStreakTX. Ending the streak will require every single driver to consistently make safe decisions every time they get behind the wheel,\u201d the release said.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe all want to get to our destination safely,\u201d the release said. \u201cIf everyone remembers who they are as Texans behind the wheel and drive kind, courteous and safe, then we can save lives.\u201d
The event will start at 8 a.m. in the ferry stacking lanes at 619 W. Cotter Ave.<\/p>\n
Officials expected to be on hand include Juan Marfil, P.E., director of traffic operations TxDOT\u2019s office in Corpus Christi; Staff Sgt.
