State Fair of Texas mascot Big Tex will get some new clothes in addition to his new Lucchese boots<\/a> ahead of the 2026 season.<\/p>\n

Say goodbye to the Dickies duds: Big Tex will now be dressed<\/a> by Western wear retailer, Cavender\u2019s, in a signature Western shirt. And Resistol will outfit him with a brand new 95-gallon, Texas-sized cowboy hat.<\/p>\n

The Fort Worth-founded Dickies had dressed Big Tex since 1973. However, the brand moved headquarters from Texas<\/a> to Costa Mesas, Calif. last year. This ultimately prompted the State Fair to partner with Tyler-based Cavender\u2019s and Garland-based Resistol.<\/p>\n

In addition to the Big Tex outfit change, Dickies Arena may also get a new name<\/a>. Dickies Arena\u2019s current owner Bluestar Alliance is no longer interested in being a part of the arena, and both Bluestar and Dickies\u2019 former owner VF Corp are also behind on payments for the naming rights for the arena, according to Trail Drive Management, the nonprofit that runs the arena on behalf of the City of Fort Worth.<\/p>\n

Big Tex\u2019s new duds<\/p>\n

This State Fair of Texas news comes as a full circle moment for Resistol. The company debuted its first Western cowboy hat at the 1936 Texas Centennial Exposition at Fair Park.<\/p>\n

For more than three decades, Dickies produced Big Tex\u2019s uniform out of the original Dickies plant that opened in Fort Worth<\/a> at 509 West Vickery Blvd. The outfit was made of real fabric. Dickies would use flame-resistant denim for his size 434 jeans. The awning material for his shirt had sleeves that were 27 feet long. Just like his boots, an outfit normally lasted Big Tex for three fair seasons.<\/p>\n

The last few seasons, Big Tex was decked out in dark denim jeans; a navy Western button down with white fringe, stars and the Dickies logo; and sunset desert boots designed by Jessica Bonilla. Details of his new design have yet to be announced.<\/p>\n

Aaliyah McNeal designed the size 95 Lucchese boots for the 2026 through 2029 State Fair seasons. The new boots feature iconic Texas symbols like the longhorn, bluebonnets, pecan trees, prickly pears and the Texas Star Ferris Wheel, with red, white and blue colors in honor of the state flag.<\/p>\n

Big Tex will debut his updated look on opening day of the State Fair of Texas<\/a> on Sept. 25.<\/p>\n
