The suspect spent time in the hospital and was ordered to report to the Community Supervisions and Corrections Department upon his release, according to court documents. He bonded out of custody a short time later.

An officer-involved shooting

Police responded to the 5600 block of Seafield Lane in northwest Forth Worth the evening of Jan. 9, 2025, after receiving a desperate call:

“My boyfriend’s drunk, and he’s banging his head against the wall, and he has a gun, and he’s shot it multiple times,” the woman caller said, according to 911 audio released by the Fort Worth Police Department.

When police arrived, the woman told them that Leverett had been firing his handgun, but he also had rifles inside. A shot could be heard from the house, according to footage from a responding officer’s body camera.

The officers told Leverett they wanted to get him help and instructed him to come out with his hands up and empty. Instead, he came out of the house and fired at the officers, police said.

Another victim

Leverett’s former girlfriend who called 911 on the day of the shooting recently spoke to the Star-Telegram on the condition on anonymity out of concern for her safety. She said Leverett also fired his gun at her shortly before she called police for help.

“If I would have been like a foot over, I wouldn’t be here today,” she said.

According to the woman’s account, Leverett was banging his head against the walls and windows the day of the shooting. She first hid in the bathroom but ran outside when Leverett tried to break down the door.

She hadn’t gone far when she heard a single gunshot. Leverett had recently threatened suicide — police said they responded to a mental health crisis at the house about a week before the shooting incident — and the girlfriend was worried he’d carried through on his promise.

She hurried back to the house, and Leverett opened the door. She said he shot his gun at the wall and then pointed the gun at her and fired.

“I could tell, like, he knew what he did,” the woman said. She ran to a neighbor’s house and called 911.

The woman said she’s struggled with anxiety and nightmares ever since and has been diagnosed with post-traumatic stress disorder.

Now that she knows Leverett has been indicted on charges of firing at her and the three officers, she feels like she can finally breathe.

“I feel a lot of relief,” she said.

Another woman who was formerly in a relationship with the suspect also released a statement after the indictment. She asked to remain anonymous due to safety concerns.

“I’m relieved to see this case finally moving forward,” the woman said. “While this process has taken a long time, the women he allegedly harmed have been left trying to rebuild their lives, while he has been able to continue living his life, traveling, and seemingly carrying on without the same burden. I hope this case reaches a fair conclusion through the justice system. If he is convicted, I hope the sentence reflects the seriousness of the allegations and the impact they have had on the victims.”

Leverett’s attorney, Christy Jack, did not return a request for comment Friday.

An evidence exchange in the case is scheduled for July 29 at 9:30 a.m., according to Tarrant County court records.

This story was originally published July 25, 2026 at 5:30 AM.

Related Stories from Fort Worth Star-Telegram

                Harriet Ramos

                    Fort Worth Star-Telegram

Harriet Ramos covers crime and other breaking news for the Fort Worth Star-Telegram.

A man accused of shooting at Fort Worth police officers during a SWAT standoff outside his home a…

[10
116,118,117
post-388465","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-fort-worth","tag-fort-worth","tag-fort-worth-headlines","tag-fort-worth-news
["GET
