HOUSTON \u2013 Traveler\u2019s Cart announced it will close down on Friday, July 31. The restaurant opened on Montrose Boulevard in October, 2023.<\/p>\n
It was a spinoff to the restaurant group\u2019s Traveler\u2019s Table.<\/p>\n
In a news release, the group says Traveler\u2019s Cart will close on Friday to give the community a chance to enjoy one last meal at the restaurant.<\/p>\n
The group adds they are actively helping the employees find new jobs in the area.<\/p>\n
Traveler\u2019s Table will remain open and some of the employees will move there.<\/p>\n
The two restaurants were owned by Matthew Mitchell and his wife Thy Mai.<\/p>\n
On May 4th of this year, Houston Police Investigators say Mitchell killed his wife, two young children, then himself.<\/p>\n
Tonight, the family of Thy Mai is filing a wrongful death lawsuit against the estate of Matthew Mitchell.<\/p>\n
In the lawsuit, they claim Mitchell planned the murders and say Mitchell made statements recorded by a Ring camera in the two weeks leading up to the triple murder suicide.<\/p>\n
According to the lawsuit, Mitchell was worried about money and said, \u201cI can\u2019t stop it for myself. I can\u2019t stop it for them. I can\u2019t stop it for…I\u2019m in such a deep hole. I\u2019m sorry Mr. Mai.\u201d<\/p>\n
The lawsuit also alleges that Mitchell moved more than a million dollars into accounts in his mother\u2019s name, and that Mitchell caused the death of their daughter and grand children.<\/p>\n
Mai\u2019s family is asking the court to order a stop to all money transfers, and for Traveler\u2019s Table to be managed by an independent executor of the estate of Thy Mai Mitchell.<\/p>\n
