Fort Bliss held the ribbon-cutting ceremony Tuesday morning on the first of 10 new 3D-printed barracks, a project leaders say will deliver faster, more cost-effective housing for soldiers while showcasing emerging construction technology.<\/p>\n
The ribbon-cutting ceremony was held at Building 730 on Custer Road at Fort Bliss.<\/p>\n
Fort Bliss leadership, representatives from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers and executives from ICON, a company specializing in advanced construction technologies, attended the event. <\/p>\n
The 10-barracks project is designed to provide \u201ccomfortable and dignified housing\u201d for up to 560 service members. <\/p>\n
Fort Bliss said the effort represents the largest deployment of robotic construction capabilities for the Department of War to date.<\/p>\n
Built in partnership with ICON and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, the barracks were constructed in just over six months, which Fort Bliss said is a fraction of the time required for traditional construction. <\/p>\n
The project is intended to deliver high-quality, energy-resilient housing aimed at improving soldier quality of life and supporting mission readiness.<\/p>\n
