Summer heat in the Borderland pushes more drivers toward window tint, but the legal limit changes depending on which city you’re in.

For more than a decade… Antonio Omar Lopez has been helping people beat the heat.

He has owned GLM Window Tinting for over 10 years.

“We offer a wide variety of films, like completely clear films, that is not going to affect the visibility of your car,” said Antonio. He says you don’t need the darkest tint to keep your car cool. “The problems or the situations that can, happen, is that the police can pull you over for having dark tint.”

But how dark is too dark depends on where you are.

In El Paso, front side windows must let in at least 25 percent of light.

In New Mexico, just a little bit darker than El Paaso.

In Juárez, the standard is roughly 70 percent — nearly clear.

That means tint legal on this side could get you pulled over in Juarez.

Instead, Antonio suggests using high-quality ceramic film that still blocks heat without needing to be as dark.

“The 70% on ceramic for our high-heat rejection film will help you and will definitely make a difference on the heat,” said Antonio.

He demonstrated to ABC-7’s Olivia Vara how much heat is blocked from both using an infrared light.

“If anything, it will provide you a high heat rejection, up to 90% infrared rejection, which is the, heat that is going to burn your skin,” said Antonio.

The ceramic film actually kept the car cooler — without going darker.

“It’s not a luxury here. It’s a necessity,” said Antonio.

Summer heat in the Borderland pushes more drivers toward window tint, but the legal limit changes depending on…

[12
137339,137340,138,140,139,137341,137342
post-389740","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-el-paso","tag-abc-7","tag-car-tint","tag-el-paso","tag-el-paso-headlines","tag-el-paso-news","tag-kvia","tag-olivia-vara
["GET
