{"id":390051,"date":"2026-07-29T02:51:55","date_gmt":"2026-07-29T02:51:55","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/390051\/"},"modified":"2026-07-29T02:51:55","modified_gmt":"2026-07-29T02:51:55","slug":"triple-digit-heat-how-el-paso-lifeguards-battle-rising-temps-4","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/390051\/","title":{"rendered":"Triple-digit heat: How El Paso lifeguards battle rising temps"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14\/CBS4) \u2014 Triple-digit temperatures have continued to blanket the Borderland, sending people to Ascarate Park Pool to cool off \u2014 and keeping lifeguards in the heat for hours at a time as they work to keep swimmers safe.<\/p>\n<p>Kaylee Sianez, a lead lifeguard at Ascarate Park Pool, said a typical shift lasts about six hours.<\/p>\n<p> \u201cDay-to-day basis, our common shifts are about six hours,\u201d Sianez said. <\/p>\n<p>She said she is \u201cusually working the open swim.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Open swim runs from noon until 5 p.m., meaning much of a lifeguard&#8217;s shift can be spent under the sun. <\/p>\n<p>RECOMMENDED: <a href=\"https:\/\/kfoxtv.com\/news\/local\/weather-warn-issued-friday-extreme-heat-to-impact-borderland?src=link\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">Weather Warn Issued Monday and Tuesday for Borderland<\/a><\/p>\n<p>Sianez said she prepares by staying hydrated, using sunscreen and bringing extra protection from the heat.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cSo having caps and hats for shade is the best thing for us,\u201d Sianez said. <\/p>\n<p>Usually I always try and bring a ton of water. I also like to get those electrolyte packets.<\/p>\n<p><p>Emily Schmalz reports on Ascarate pool lifeguard braving the heat<\/p>\n<\/p>\n<p>During breaks, Sianez said lifeguards use the time to cool down \u2014 whether that means getting into the pool or finding shade.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cWe do pool breaks and jumping in the water here, and there helps to cool off a lot.
