{"id":390334,"date":"2026-07-29T08:20:12","date_gmt":"2026-07-29T08:20:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/390334\/"},"modified":"2026-07-29T08:20:12","modified_gmt":"2026-07-29T08:20:12","slug":"hii-brings-distributed-shipbuilding-to-san-antonio-class-program","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/390334\/","title":{"rendered":"HII Brings Distributed Shipbuilding to San Antonio-Class Program"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>\t\t\t<a href=\"https:\/\/dronefront.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\">&#13;<br \/>\n    <img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/wp-content\/uploads\/2026\/07\/WhatsAppVideo2026-05-15at09.23.58.gif\" alt=\"The Drone Front\" width=\"1280\" height=\"539\"\/>&#13;<br \/>\n<\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">HII\u2019s Ingalls Shipbuilding has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.hii.com\/news\/hiis-ingalls-shipbuilding-expands-distributed-shipbuilding-to-amphibious-ships\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">expanded<\/a> its distributed shipbuilding model to the US Navy\u2019s amphibious transport dock program, starting with the future <a href=\"https:\/\/thedefensepost.com\/2025\/01\/30\/us-san-antonio-transport-dock\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">USS Philadelphia<\/a> (LPD 32).<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The company said modular construction for the ship is already underway, with eight structural units assigned to two industry partners. The move extends a manufacturing approach that Ingalls has already used on the navy\u2019s <a href=\"https:\/\/thedefensepost.com\/2025\/12\/17\/us-navy-flight-iii\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Flight III Arleigh Burke-class destroyer program<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Ingalls said distributing portions of ship construction to partner shipyards allows multiple sections of a vessel to be built simultaneously while its Pascagoula, Mississippi, facility focuses on final assembly, integration, and testing.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">\u201cExpanding distributed shipbuilding into the LPD program is a critical step in scaling capacity to meet rising fleet demand,\u201d Ingalls Shipbuilding President Brian Blanchette said.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The LPD class is designed to transport marines, landing craft, aircraft, and equipment for amphibious assault, humanitarian assistance, and expeditionary operations. Ingalls is the sole builder of the San Antonio-class ships for the US Navy.<\/p>\n<p>Ingalls Shipbuilding\u2019s US Footprint<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">The distributed shipbuilding expansion follows several major US Navy awards to Ingalls Shipbuilding as the service continues modernizing its surface fleet.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">In April, the service awarded Ingalls a $283-million contract to <a href=\"https:\/\/thedefensepost.com\/2026\/04\/29\/us-ingalls-frigate-contract\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">begin lead yard support for the future FF(X) frigate program<\/a>, providing engineering and technical services as the service develops its next class of guided-missile frigates.<\/p>\n<p class=\"wp-block-paragraph\">Earlier, in March, <a href=\"https:\/\/thedefensepost.com\/2026\/03\/04\/us-san-antonio-ship\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Ingalls authenticated the keel<\/a> of the navy\u2019s 16th San Antonio-class amphibious transport dock in Mississippi.
