<\/p>\nApache leaders from across the country gathered at the Hans and Pat Suter Wildlife Refuge for a historic ceremony celebrating unity, culture and the preservation of <\/p>\n
CORPUS CHRISTI, Texas \u2014 Leaders from Apache nations across the United States gathered in Corpus Christi over the weekend for a historic reunion focused on preserving their culture, strengthening relationships and honoring generations of shared history.<\/p>\n
The gathering took place at the Hans and Pat Suter Wildlife Refuge, where tribal leaders participated in what they described as only the second “Blessing of the Chiefs” ceremony in history.<\/p>\n

According to Apache Nation leaders, the first ceremony took place in 1747, when Apache and Comanche leaders ended years of conflict in an event remembered as the “Burying of the Hatchet.” Organizers said this year’s gathering carried forward that same message of reconciliation, respect and unity among tribal nations.<\/p>\n
Chief Angel said the event fulfilled a vision that has been passed down through generations.<\/p>\n
“My grandfather’s dream, Geronimo, was to bring all our people back together again under one teepee, one wiki up, one roof, and that’s what we’re doing here,” Chief Angel said. “We’re all back together again as one people, one nation.”<\/p>\n
The event welcomed leaders from multiple Apache nations, creating an opportunity to reconnect, share traditions and celebrate a culture that continues to thrive.<\/p>\n
Vice Chief Andrew Aranda of the Apache Nd\u00e9 Nation also highlighted another significant moment during the gathering. He said the Apache chiefs and the Apache Nd\u00e9 Nation were recognized by the United States Congress and presented with a U.S. flag that had flown over the U.S. Capitol.<\/p>\n
“We were also recognized by the United States Congress,” Aranda said. “We were presented with a flag that flew over the U.S. Capitol on behalf of the Apache chiefs and the Apache Nd\u00e9 Nation.”<\/p>\n
Organizers say the weekend gathering was about more than honoring the past.
