Police say officers were searching for the man charged with sexual assault against a minor when he reportedly pulled out a handgun.<\/p>\n

FORT WORTH, Texas \u2014 Fort Worth officers shot and killed a man Saturday night after officials say he reportedly pulled out a handgun.<\/p>\n

According to Fort Worth Police Chief Eddie Garcia, Fort Worth Police Directed Response Unit (DRU) were searching for the man, who was charged with sexual assault against a minor, after he had reportedly cut his ankle bracelet off.<\/p>\n

When officers found the man shortly after 8 p.m. driving near Interstate 35 and Risinger Road, police say he led them on a short chase to a motel, M&M Inn and Suites,101 Palette Drive.\u00a0<\/p>\n

As police approached the man giving verbal commands, Garcia said the man reportedly pulled out a handgun and officers fired at him.<\/p>\n

Officers rendered medical aid, police said, but the man died from his injuries.<\/p>\n

Officers preformed a sweep of the vehicle and located a handgun inside, officials say. There were no other passengers inside the vehicle and no other injuries reported, police say.<\/p>\n

Fort Worth Police Department’s Major Case Unit is investigating the scene and working to determine the circumstances leading up to the pursuit and officer-involved shooting.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Police have not identified the man who was killed. The Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office will identify the deceased and release the official cause of death.\u00a0<\/p>\n

Garcia said a press conference will be held later this week regarding the shooting.<\/p>\n
