{"id":390838,"date":"2026-07-29T17:25:13","date_gmt":"2026-07-29T17:25:13","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/390838\/"},"modified":"2026-07-29T17:25:13","modified_gmt":"2026-07-29T17:25:13","slug":"texas-producers-stay-vigilant-as-confirmed-cases-of-new-world-screwworm-continue","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/390838\/","title":{"rendered":"Texas Producers Stay Vigilant as Confirmed Cases of New World Screwworm Continue"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>MERCEDES, Texas (RFD News) \u2014 The USDA has confirmed more than 40 cases of New World screwworm during the current outbreak, raising concerns among producers and veterinarians in South Texas.<\/p>\n<p>Brooks County veterinarian Dr. Michael Vickers says while the number of confirmed cases is still relatively low, the recent increase in the latter half of July is concerning.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt\u2019s almost a double, a double of a number of reported cases from just a couple of weeks ago to last week,\u201d Vickers said. \u201cThere were some cases in Starr County. So far, it seems like it\u2019s a slow process and it\u2019s a slow situation, but them having a double take in reported cases in the matter of a week is a concern.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>While producers continue monitoring the outbreak, cattleman Mike England praised the USDA\u2019s response to help limit the spread.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI think Secretary Rollins and all of her company, all the people that are working with her, have done an excellent job.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Members of the South Texas agricultural community say they will continue watching reported case numbers as the response to New World
