(WTAQ-WLUK) \u2013 The USS Fort Worth, a U.S. Navy ship built at Fincantieri Marinette Marine, was decommissioned Wednesday in a ceremony in San Diego.<\/p>\n

Launched in\u00a02010<\/a>, the\u00a0USS Fort Worth<\/a>\u00a0was one a series of littoral combat ships built in Marinette and Alabama to serve coastal areas.<\/p>\n

However, due to a series of issues with the ships and changing priorities, the Navy\u00a0has decommissioned several\u00a0of the LCS in recent years.<\/p>\n

\u201cBy retiring early-hull test platforms like Fort Worth, the Navy redirects investments toward upgrading the remaining LCS inventory with enhanced capabilities. This strategy sustains the LCS program and underscores the Navy\u2019s commitment to building America\u2019s Fleet of the Future, ensuring the active ships remain relevant, combat-credible, and reliable throughout their service lives,\u201d a Navy news release said Wednesday.<\/p>\n
