{"id":391510,"date":"2026-07-30T03:38:08","date_gmt":"2026-07-30T03:38:08","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/391510\/"},"modified":"2026-07-30T03:38:08","modified_gmt":"2026-07-30T03:38:08","slug":"girl-scouts-of-central-texas-makes-decision-on-camp-howdy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/www.newsbeep.com\/us-tx\/391510\/","title":{"rendered":"Girl Scouts of Central Texas makes decision on Camp Howdy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p class=\"text | article-text\">BRYAN, Texas (KBTX) &#8211; A longtime Girl Scouts camp in Bryan is closing its doors.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\"><a href=\"https:\/\/bcsgirlscouts.org\/facilities\/camp-howdy\/\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Camp Howdy<\/a> has served thousands of Girl Scouts and families and has been a staple in the community for over 70 years. The Girl Scouts of Central Texas said the decision comes after a June survey which asked members what they want most from the organization. <\/p>\n<p>RELATED: <a href=\"\" rel=\"\" title=\"\">New Girl Scout survey impacts future of Camp Howdy <\/a><\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Chief Marketing and Communications Officer Kursten Mitchell said the survey results showed outdoor experiences were ranked among the top priorities. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cSo what we learned from the survey of our members is that outdoor experiences really, really matter,\u201d Mitchell explained. \u201cThere are lots of places that actually have more infrastructure and are better designed to do some of the activities that we want to do.\u201d<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Mitchell said it was a tough decision to move forward with the closure of Camp Howdy.<\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">\u201cCamp Howdy has obviously been in the Girl Scout family for a very long time, and it holds a lot of really important traditions and memories, but people have really started changing how they interact with Girl Scouts,\u201d Mitchell remarked. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">The organization still owns the Camp Howdy property and has plans to sell it. In the meantime, Girl Scout members can access the camp as usual through the end of the year. <\/p>\n<p class=\"text | article-text\">Mitchell said the Girl Scouts of Central Texas are continuing to focus their efforts on the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.gsctx.org\/en\/members\/for-girl-scouts-caregivers\/camp-and-outdoors\/summer-camp\/bluebonnet-shores-girl-scout-camp.html\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\" target=\"_blank\">Camp Bluebonnet Shores<\/a> property in Lake Belton. <\/p>\n<p>Copyright 2026 KBTX.
