<\/p>\nRotary Clubs across Central Texas joined forces to donate hundreds of box fans for residents with no air conditioning.<\/p>\n
KILLEEN, Texas \u2014 Rotary Clubs across Central Texas joined together this summer to help keep residents cool through a generous donation.<\/p>\n
What began as a simple act of kindness has grown into a community-wide donation drive as Rotary District 5870 clubs from Killeen, Temple, Harker Heights and Copperas Cove came together to donate hundreds of fans to residents in need.<\/p>\n

The City of Killeen said the drive began when Rotary Club of Killeen President Warren “Tex” Wilson Sr., reached out to the Killeen Fire Department after collecting a dozen box fans. The City said Wilson’s goal was to provide firefighters with fans they could offer to residents they encountered on calls who needed them, such as those who did not have air conditioning in their homes or whose AC systems were not working.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis all started when Tex from the Killeen Rotary asked if we would be able to take a dozen box fans that he picked up and have them just in case somebody needed them when we went out on a call,\u201d said Killeen Fire Chief Jim Kubinski. \u201cI did not expect it to be a few hundred.\u201d<\/p>\n
The City of Killeen said the initial donation quickly grew from 12 fans into several hundred after Rotary Clubs from Temple, Harker Heights and Copperas Cove joined the Killeen Club’s effort.<\/p>\n
The Killeen Fire Department plans to work with city departments and community partners to distribute the fans to residents who need them, according to the City. Killeen Fire and Police personnel will also reportedly have the ability to provide fans to people they encounter on calls or in the community.<\/p>\n
\u201cThis is what community is all about, neighbors helping neighbors,\u201d Kubinski said. \u201cA small gesture has made such a big impact on the lives of our residents when they need it most.\u201d<\/p>\n
