Volunteers with Texans On Mission remain on the ground in the Texas Hill Country, where they have been helping families recover since last year’s devastating floods. Now, after another round of flooding, the organization says the need is greater than ever.<\/p>\n
Chief Mission Officer John Hall said the nonprofit had already rebuilt 183 homes destroyed in last summer’s flooding before rising waters struck the region again.<\/p>\n
“We are committed to being there into 2027, and then the second flood hit,” Hall said.<\/p>\n
Hall said the initial recovery effort is moving faster this time because volunteers were already in place and the community understands the recovery process.<\/p>\n
But he said this year’s disaster has caused more widespread damage while generating fewer donations than last year’s floods.<\/p>\n
“Last year, we know there was a lot of money given. That is not necessarily the case this year,” Hall said.<\/p>\n
“There’s a lot of communities that aren’t going to get any help financially. There’s a lot of folks who are going to fall through the cracks potentially. We don’t want that to happen,” Hall said.<\/p>\n
Texans On Mission has already received requests for assistance from more than 200 homeowners, including some families seeking help for the second time.<\/p>\n
“Folks who were just learning to trust again, to look forward to something better, have been retraumatized,” Hall said.<\/p>\n
Hall said Texans On Mission and other trusted nonprofits working in the Texas Hill Country need monetary donations to continue helping families rebuild.<\/p>\n
“I have families all the time say, ‘Don’t forget us, don’t forget us,” Hall said.<\/p>\n
