A new business featuring a supervised kids’ play area and a full-service restaurant and bar officially opened in River Oaks in late July.

Recess is a brand-new concept to the Houston market that blends the interests of both parents and children. The two-story family-friendly play and dine retreat located on Waugh Drive combines a supervised indoor playground with an all-day restaurant and bar.

The structure features a climate-controlled, large indoor play space for children aged 4 to 11 with professional supervision, as well as a separate play area for toddlers aged 1 to 3 that requires direct parental supervision.

Overlooking the play areas on the second floor is a bistro and bar with a menu that highlights classic American breakfast, lunch and dinner choices such as baked goods, salads, sandwiches and flatbreads. Main dinner offerings boast chicken piccata, steak frites and grilled salmon.

A cocktail menu also offers parents beverage choices that range from beer and wine to margaritas and specialty cocktails.

The cost

Pricing varies based on availability. A weekday-only membership costs approximately $130 per month for one child, while an all-week access pass sits at $180 per month for one child, according to the company’s website. For general anytime play, guests can expect to pay around $18.50 per hour.

Company officials do recommend booking a reservation for large families up to two weeks in advance. The venue is also available to rent for parties and events.

A new business featuring a supervised kids’ play area and a full-service restaurant and bar officially opened in…

[7
1604,62,56,58,57,57553,1454,223,138009,17075,69,7493,138010
post-391823","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","has-post-thumbnail","category-houston","tag-community-impact","tag-dining","tag-houston","tag-houston-headlines","tag-houston-news","tag-indoor-playground","tag-near-me","tag-news","tag-recess","tag-river-oaks","tag-things-to-do","tag-update","tag-where-to-take-my-kids
["GET
