While Abbott is focusing on lining the pockets of his billionaire donors, Hinojosa has spent her campaign traveling the state and connecting with Democrats, Republicans, and Independents who are ready for a governor who will put them first.<\/p>\n

In an interview with\u00a0Newsweek<\/a>, a strategist put it plainly: \u201cHinojosa has the momentum. This race has gone from a 10-point race to a 7-point race to a 5-point race to a 3-point race.\u201d<\/p>\n

As the race tightens, Texans are making it clear that they are sick and tired of Greg Abbott\u2019s corruption and failed policies. Hinojosa has a simple plan to save public schools and put money in your pockets, and from now until Election Day, she will continue connecting with new voters across the state to close the gap and implement the change Texans deserve.<\/p>\n

USA Today: Gina Hinojosa closes gap on Texas Gov. Greg Abbott in new poll<\/a><\/p>\n

A July 28 poll from the Texas Public Opinion Research showed Democratic state Rep. Gina Hinojosa trailing Republican Gov. Greg Abbott by 3 percentage points \u2014 just outside the poll\u2019s margin of error.<\/p>\n

This new TPOR poll showed that Hinojosa is closing the 7-percentage-point gap previous polls had between the two candidates.<\/p>\n

The gap narrowed in spring, with a May 29 poll from the TPOR showing Abbott leading 46% to 41% with 9% undecided \u2014 a 5-point lead that matched TPOR\u2019s April poll, which had Abbott leading 48% to 43%.<\/p>\n

Looking more deeply at the July TPOR, it showed Hinojosa leading among independents, moderates, Black and Latino voters, while Abbott leads among college-educated and white voters.<\/p>\n

Democratic gubernatorial candidate Gina Hinojosa is in a virtual tie with Gov. Greg Abbott, the Republican incumbent, according to a new poll released Tuesday by nonpartisan Texas Public Opinion Research.<\/p>\n

Of the 1,048 likely Texas voters surveyed between July 15 and July 17, 45% said they plan to vote for Abbott, while 42% said they prefer Hinojosa, putting the Austin state representative within the 3.4% margin of error.<\/p>\n

Boosting Hinojosa is her popularity with Black voters, with whom she leads by 49%, according to the survey. Meanwhile, her Rio Grande Valley roots helped push Hinojosa to lead with Latino voters by 38%.<\/p>\n

Hinojosa\u2019s camp also noted in a press release that the polling shows that Abbott, who\u2019s seeking a historic fourth term in office, is the \u201cleast popular he\u2019s been in his political career.\u201d<\/p>\n

If Hinojosa is successful in November, she would be Texas\u2019 first Democratic governor since Ann Richards led the state from 1991 to 1995.<\/p>\n
