Chicken wings.<\/p>\n<p>On Aug. 21, a corrections officer with the office\u2019s Security Threat Intelligence Unit \u201cbecame aware\u201d that another newer officer may have \u201cprovided chicken wings to an inmate\u201d in exchange for money, according to a press release issued by the Travis County Sheriff\u2019s Office (TSCO) on Tuesday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>The TSCO did not say if the exchange was part of an ongoing arrangement, nor how much cash or chicken was involved.<\/p>\n<p>\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.wtnh.com\/news\/news-8-exclusive\/special-report-emotional-tug-of-war-over-release-of-evidence-in-connecticut-inmates-death\/\" class=\"promo-link__link\" target=\"&quot;_blank&quot;\" rel=\"nofollow noopener\"><br \/>\n\t\tSpecial Report: Emotional tug-of-war over release of evidence in Connecticut inmate\u2019s death\t<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The correctional officer, who had been in his role since June 2024, was reassigned to administrative duties during the investigation.<\/p>\n<p>He was ultimately charged with \u201cContraband in a Correctional Facility,\u201d which is a class B misdemeanor, according to the TCSO. In Texas, a class B misdemeanor is punishable by up to 180 days in jail, a fine of up to $2,000, or both, according to the <a href=\"https:\/\/statutes.capitol.texas.gov\/docs\/pe\/htm\/pe.12.htm\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">Texas Penal Code.<\/a><\/p>\n<p>The officer was also terminated from his position and arrested, TCSO said.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI\u2019m disappointed that a Travis County Sheriff\u2019s Office Corrections Officer made such a foolish decision. We hold our employees to a high standard of conduct and accountability.
