(KBTX) – LSU is the second conference opponent on Texas A&M\u2019s 2026 schedule, and the Week 4 matchup carries added storylines heading into the fall.<\/p>\n
Lane Kiffin, who left Ole Miss before the Rebels\u2019 playoff run to join LSU, will face the Aggies for the first time as the Tigers\u2019 head coach. Kiffin has had a public history with former Texas A&M coach Jimbo Fisher, but his tone has shifted when discussing current Aggies head coach Mike Elko.<\/p>\n
\u201cMike has really good insight on rule changes, on thoughts, of all the different ways that college football is evolving,\u201d Kiffin said. \u201cAnd so I\u2019ve been really impressed with him in the meetings that way. And then, obviously, his teams have played great, too. I think they play really tough. They play physical. I think he\u2019s really attacking, and he\u2019s done a phenomenal job.\u201d<\/p>\n
Tigers looking for revenge after 2024 loss<\/p>\n
Kiffin was not on LSU\u2019s sideline last season, but the players who were remember the result. Texas A&M picked up its first win in Baton Rouge in more than 30 years, defeating the Tigers 49-25. Aggie fans took over Tiger Stadium during the fourth quarter, turning Death Valley into what some called Kyle Field East.<\/p>\n
LSU players are anticipating the rematch, once again in Baton Rouge this year.<\/p>\n
\u201cThat game is always anticipated. It\u2019s a rivalry game with Texas A&M. The stadium was packed,\u201d said LSU tight end Trey\u2019Dez Green. \u201cI\u2019m really excited for that game.\u201d<\/p>\n
Linebacker Whit Weeks, who was sidelined during last year\u2019s matchup, said the experience of watching from the sideline made the defeat harder to process.<\/p>\n
\u201cI wish we were playing them in College Station because I love going to that stadium. That\u2019s an unbelievable stadium as well,\u201d Weeks said. \u201cIt was tough for me because when you\u2019re not playing, you feel like you\u2019re letting your brothers down. So it\u2019s really hard for me when I\u2019m sitting out games like that. So it is going to be exciting for me to get to play A&M this year.\u201d<\/p>\n
Aggies face back-to-back road games<\/p>\n
Under the SEC\u2019s new nine-game conference schedule, LSU is one of Texas A&M\u2019s permanent opponents, with the two teams alternating home and away each year. But since the new schedule starts this year, the Aggies will face the Tigers on the road in consecutive seasons, traveling to Death Valley on Sept. 26.<\/p>\n
